Stretch Your Stamps | Bold Sentiments

Today I am excited and honored to be participating in Choux Puff Creations‘ “Stretch Your Stamps Scrapbooking Series”! I’d like to start by extending a huge thank you to Shu-Wen for inviting me to be a part of this community project. You can check out all the other contributors from this month, and all previous videos in the series, over on Shu-Wen’s YouTube Channel in the #SYSScrapbooking Playlist. If you are interested in playing along, or seeing how other community members have played along, use the hashtag #SYSScrapbooking on Instagram.

The following folks are contributing videos this month for the theme of Bold Sentiments. Click on the following links to be taken to their videos:

So let’s start by defining “bold sentiments”. I define bold sentiment stamps as any stamps designed to make a bold statement. These will often be made in a thick, heavy font or bold letters. Often, these will be large stamps, but smaller stamps can still be considered “bold”.

Here are a few examples of how I’ve used bold sentiment stamps in past projects:

In today’s video I show each of these projects (and more) and discuss the variety of ways I’ve used bold sentiment stamps.

Ways to Use Bold Sentiment Stamps

  • Repeat stamp to create a background
  • Use as a journaling prompt on a journaling page or card
  • Use alpha stamps or number stamps to create your own bold sentiments
  • Stamp and heat emboss a bold sentiment in white on white for a subtle effect
  • Create a pattern
  • Use on punched shapes or labels on top of photos in pockets
  • Use as a the centerpiece / foundation of a story or layout
  • Combine a bunch to make a border made up of bold words (use a large stamp block or stamping platform to make this easier)
  • Combine them to build a title on your page
  • Layer for customized, artistic cards or tags in your projects

This last technique is what I’d like to share more about with you today. I’ve been really inspired by members of the community, specifically Heidi Swapp and Kerri Bradford, and their impeccable stamp-layering skills. So I’ve been practicing it a little myself and thought it would be fun to share my process with you as part of this series since I think it’s a great way to stretch the stamps you have, breathe new life into them, and make fun projects! I also think that this technique allows for creative use of ALL your stamps – bold, tiny, alpha, and images or icons – all together to create cool and interesting stamped elements.

I’m using a variety of stamps, inks, and my go-to tools for stamping for these projects. I share all of this in the video, and there is a list of links to everything I’ve used or referenced in the video at the bottom of this post.
